Got a budding artist in your home who has a little free time this summer?

Early Masters, which teaches art and art history to children ages 7-12 through hands-on classes, is now enrolling students for its summer camps.

You can get the details and register here, but here’s the rundown:

  • Oh My Stars!: A Vincent van Gogh Intensive; four classes from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. June 28-July 1; $210
Students will read books, listen to music, paint in the park, paint in the studio and see lots of inspirational slide shows in Masterpiece Loft. This is the class for those pint-sized self-proclaimed ‘experts’ and newcomers alike. Think your child likes Vincent now? Just wait till June 28th.
  • The Impressionists Are Coming!; four classes from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. July 6-9; $210
You may know the names – Degas, Renoir, Morisot, Sisley – but by the end of the week, your child will be able to pick out a Monet from a Manet. Students will learn the lives of the great Impressionists and the unique styles that inspired them to chase and capture that fleeting moment of the present.
  • Understanding Frida; 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. July 26-30; $260
Kids love her flamboyant style but Frida Kahlo was more than colorful clothes and exotic pets. Students will channel this incredible artist by making wonderful artwork in the spirit of “Fridamania” all the while studying her Mexican heritage, home and culture, and see how these factors figured prominently in her artwork and identity.
  • American Idols!: American Artist and their Greatest Hits; 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Aug. 2-6; $260
Students will paint cities and flowers like Georgia O’Keefe, flags like Jasper Johns, paint our own American slice of life like Edward Hopper, and listen to jazz while creating Jackson Pollock-style masterpieces – and that’s just getting started.
  • Picasso Blockbuster; 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Aug. 9-13; $260
Whether your children know a little or a lot about Picasso , this is the perfect chance to get them ready for the Seattle Art Museum’s big Picasso show scheduled this fall. The exhibition, drawn from the collection of the Musée National Picasso in Paris, will feature some 150 works of art from various points in his career.

Early Masters is located at 8815 Roosevelt Way N.E., right around the corner from the Kitchen Coach Cooking School, where children also are invited to learn the tricks of the kitchen at its summer classes. So many options, so nearby!

Which would your child prefer?
