How did your favorite restaurant fare at inspection?

The Seattle/King County health department recently made the rounds in parts of Maple Leaf and visited a number of restaurants and other food service establishments for annual inspections.

The good news is, the health department recorded no violations at Blue Saucer at 9127 Roosevelt Way N.E., Old Fifth Avenue Tavern at 8507 Fifth Ave. N.E. and the San Marco Grocery & Deli at 8416 Fifth Ave. N.E

And for the most part, patrons have little to be worried about over “red critical violations,” which carry a higher risk of food-borne illness. They were at a minimum during the visits published Friday by EveryBlock. Even combined with maintenance-related “blue violations,” no Maple Leaf establishment was anywhere near the score of 120 that would close a business. The highest score from the following establishments was 11.

But still, if you’d rather not know what goes on behind the scenes at your favorite joint, you may not want to continue.

With the best score being zero for no violations, the 7-Eleven store at 9126 Roosevelt Way N.E. netted the next-lowest score of 5. The violation: “Wiping cloths improperly used, stored.” It had a similar violation at its previous inspection.

Each with a score of 10 are Cloud City Coffee, 8801 Roosevelt Way N.E. and the Reservoir Bar & Grill, 8509 Roosevelt Way N.E. The one red critical violation was recorded at Cloud City for “Raw meats, poultry, aquatic foods not stored away from ready-to-eat foods.” It also had a blue violation: “Insects, rodents, animals present; entrance uncontrolled.” Cloud City had no violations at its previous inspection.

Violations at the Reservoir are as follows: “Food not protected from potential contamination during preparation, storage, display; warewashing facilities not properly installed, maintained, used; no test strips available and used.” It, too, had no violations at its previous inspection.

The highest score of 11 went to Kona Kitchen, 8501 Fifth Ave. N.E., for the following violations: “Wiping cloths improperly used, stored; non-food contact surfaces not maintained, clean, sanitized; in-use utensils improperly stored.” It had a higher score at its previous inspection.
