Meeting on buses, 15th Ave. and the closed bridge

Even when the closed 15th Avenue Northeast bridge is back in service next year, bus service along the arterial won’t be the same.

A public meeting to discuss that and connected issues will be held by the Seattle Department of Transportation and Metro from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 15,  at Lakeview Free Methodist Church, 9412 15th Ave. N.E.

When buses are again running on 15th Avenue, passengers will find Metro has consolidated some of the bus stops. This should mean the buses will run faster (because they will stop less often), but will also presumably mean passengers may walk another block or two to catch their bus.

“The agenda will be short,” e-mails Maribel Cruz of the city’s transportation department. “A brief overview of the status of the bridge project, a discussion around the process each respective agency went through to come up with the bus re-route in anticipation of the bridge closure, a short discussion about bus stop consolidations happening on 15th that are separate from the bridge project (but may have confused people), and the rest of the time will be for Q&A.”

Cruz said the June 15 meeting is an outgrowth of April’s general meeting of the Maple Leaf Community Council. At that meeting Maple Leaf resident Marjorie Rhodes, who has a blog complaining about bus service in Maple Leaf, raised questions that were not addressed due to time constraints, Cruz said.

“It is important to note that our intentions for this meeting are to address the concerns Marjorie (and/or others) have as they relate to the bus service on 15th as a result of the bridge closure,” Cruz said.
