Free fun, cheap fun and plenty more this weekend

Last weekend’s Fremont Solstice Parade may have been a somewhat gray welcome to summer, but between this weekend’s myriad area events and the warmer weather forecast, we’re sure to make up for it and then some.

If you’re not taking part in the Seattle Pride Parade on Sunday and its related events all weekend long, just be aware that it could clog up traffic in the downtown area, similar to the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon (check here for road closures) taking place Saturday.

Planning on staying in the neighborhood instead? Here are a few area events:

  • Tonight is the monthly Family Fun for $5 at Northgate Community Center, 10510 Fifth Ave. N.E., which will feature the movie “Madagascar 2” projected on the multipurpose room wall for a $5 activity fee per family. The community center will provide mats and popcorn; you bring blankets, pillows and you even can wear your PJs.
  • In case you haven’t heard how ga-ga Seattle is over the World Cup, check out this clip from “The Daily Show” that shows a couple of seconds of mayhem from the Roosevelt neighborhood’s Atlantic Crossing:

But you’d like to stay closer to home to watch the U.S. play Ghana at 11:30 a.m. Saturday with fellow soccer fans, just amble down the street to Cooper’s Alehouse, Roosevelt Ale House or the Ram, which all will be open in time for kickoff.

  • Feel like heading north for the weekend? The 20th annual Shoreline Arts Festival will showcase art exhibits, dancing and more from around the globe from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at various locations in the city.
  • From noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, SCAN, Seattle’s public access television station, is holding a Sidewalk Sale of used computers and video equipment outside its offices at 1125 N. 98th St. All equipment will be sold as-is, and purchases are cash only.
  • Looking for free fun for the whole family? Check out the open house at Green Lake’s Fire Station 16, 6846 Oswego Place N.E., from 10 a.m. to noon Sunday. View the design of the station, meet neighborhood firefighters and tour the engine.
  • Also Sunday there will be a silent art auction from 3-5 p.m. Sunday to benefit North Helpline at the Wedgwood Alehouse, 8515 35th Ave. N.E.

Here’s some more ideas from our partner blogs:

  • Fremont Universe: Can’t wait for Wednesday’s opening of “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse”? Get a nibble of what’s to come at opening night of this summer’s Fremont Outdoor Movies, which will feature a never-before-seen clip from “Eclipse,” along with part two of the saga, “New Moon.” Doors open at 6 p.m., and even though the movie won’t start until 9:30 p.m., you’ll want to get there early. Actresses Nikki Reed, who stars as Rosalie Cullen, and Elizabeth Reaser, who plays Esme Cullen, also will be at the kickoff event for a special meet and greet. Wristbands for the free screening will be available at 11 a.m. at the box office, located at 3501 Phinney Ave. N.
  • MyBallard: The Sunset Tavern in Ballard is celebrating its 10-year anniversary with plenty of live music and other surprises.
  • PhinneyWood: The 18th annual Greenwood Car Show is expected to bring thousands to the Greenwood-Phinney neighborhood from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The show will run along Phinney and Greenwood avenues from North 67th Street to North 90th Street and Greenwood Avenue North.

What did we forget? Know of any events around town our readers should know about?
