Fine Impressions Gallery is giving France its due all month in honor of today’s Bastille Day celebration.

The Maple Leaf gallery, located at 8300 Fifth Ave. N.E., explains a little about the national French holiday and the accompanying print:

On July 14, a grand parade marches down the Champs Elysees in Paris to commemorate the July 14, 1789, fall of the Bastille. We call it Bastille Day. The French, however, call it “La Fete Nationale” (the National Celebration), or simply “le quatorze juillet” (the 14th of July, like our 4th of July). These horsemen are a detail of “Cuirassiers Francais,” an 1830 wood engraving, from “Image de Gangel,”( item # 06028).

Additional French prints also will be featured this month, including famous French cities and other attractions, as well as its fashion through the years.

And now that it’s getting hot outside, Fine Impressions Gallery also warns visitors that on warmer days, owner Carol Maurer opens up shop at 10 a.m., an hour earlier than normal, but also closes early. You can call 206-784-5270 to double-check hours on these hot summer days.

Do you have any plans for celebrating Bastille Day?
