Husky Rugby team warns of door-to-door fraud

Some people are going door to door in several Seattle neighborhoods pretending to be members of the UW Rugby team. They try to sell homeowners a magazine subscription, saying the funds will go to help the team pay for a trip to Australia.

The team decided to put a message on their website to warn of the fraud and offer a real way to donate to the team (even though they aren’t going to Australia). Thanks to our friends at the West Seattle Blog for first reporting the problem.

A few days ago a young man was going door-to-door in Maple Leaf, also selling magazines, also for a “good cause.” Problem was the magazine he was carrying was City Arts Magazine, available free at many local stores.

  1. If you get one of these magazine salespeople (usually kids or young adults), you should turn them away after noting their appearance, attire, and direction they are headed and then call the non-emergency police line. The police usually want to know about these operations because they are as often as anything also scoping neighborhoods and houses for thefts.
