Huge Wallingford wine store has Maple Leaf roots

A 23,000-square-foot wine store that’s slated to open right off of Interstate 5 in Wallingford has its roots in Maple Leaf, where owner David LeClaire operates his Wine Events & Promotions company and Seattle Uncorked.

“If everything goes as planned, that’s about a five-minute drive,” said LeClaire, who our news partner MyWallingford called a “sommelier, event producer and all-around wine guy.”

Puget Sound Business Journal says the store, which will take over the space left vacant by Office Max a year ago, is scheduled to open in the fall, but LeClaire says he’s still $300,000 short of the amount he needs to secure the space.

“Nothing’s a done deal until the money’s in the bank,” he said.

It’d be hard for a wine lover to not root for a store that will be called Wine World.

The Journal says that in addition to its 4,000 items, including Northwest and international wines as well as food and accessories, Wine World touts “a pair of 30-foot counters for wine tastings, an espresso bar and a 6,000-square-foot meeting room for hosting private and corporate events that includes a demonstration kitchen.”
