Kaleidoscope Dance Company is celebrating 30 years of introducing Seattle-area youths to modern dance with its Gift of Dance Concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 12.
This weekend’s performance will feature 38 dancers between the ages of 8 and 16, including eight students from the Maple Leaf/View Ridge/Wedgwood neighborhoods, who have performed all over the Puget Sound region, across the United States and on five continents.
The company started with just 12 dancers, but since then founder and artistic director Anne Green Gilbert has nurtured more than 200 dancers between the ages of 6 and 17. What can you expect from the Gift of Dance? From the Kaleidoscope Dance Company website:
Dances have been created using inspirational quotes as a springboard. This quote by Eleanor Roosevelt distills the experience that Anne and her dancers have shared with each other over the past thirty years: The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.
Tickets for the family-friendly concert are available at the door at the Shorewood High School Theater, 17300 Fremont Ave. N. in Shoreline. Cost is $8 for adults and $5 for youths.
