With Christmas just two weeks away, we’re canvasing the neighborhood to learn who is collecting food or clothing for others.

Gwen at the Maple Leaf Grill, 8929 Roosevelt Way N.E., e-mailed to suggest it, and pointed out that the grill has a Giving Tree that benefits foster children through Treehouse for Kids. “We’re taking new toy and clothing donations through Dec. 17th.”

Cloud City Coffee, 8801 Roosevelt Way N.E., has a collection barrel for North Helpline, as does the Blue Saucer, 9127 Roosevelt Way N.E. North Helpline is a food bank that serves this area; more information about donating is here.

The Roosevelt Ale House, 8824 Roosevelt Way N.E., is collecting for a different food bank, Northwest Harvest. A list of foods Northwest Harvest needs can be found here.

Maple Leaf Ace Hardware is collecting old and broken Christmas tree lights. Proceeds go to Lights for Life, a nonprofit that helps children with cancer.

Just to our south, Eckstein Middle School is holding a warm coat drive through Dec. 15 to benefit homeless teens in the University District this winter. Learn more about it in the Roosiehood blog.

Who else in the neighborhood is collecting donations for the holidays?
