Get thee to the Post Office – now!

The lines are long and getting longer. This one, at the Northgate location, was out the door earlier this week.

The busiest day of the year for the U.S. Post Office? That would be next Monday, Dec. 20.

The last day to put your first-class cards in the mail for Christmas delivery? That would also be next Monday, Dec. 20.

More than 800 million cards, letters and packages are expected to be mailed on that day alone, compared to 559 million on a typical day. Wednesday, Dec. 22, will be the busiest delivery day.

The Postal Service expects to deliver nearly 3 billion cards and letters over the holidays.

If you’re running behind, Dec. 21 is the deadline for Priority Mail delivery by Christmas, and Dec. 22 is the deadline for Express Mail.  For more information, visit the post office online.

The closest post office to Maple Leaf is the well-hidden one just across Northeast Northgate Way at 11036 Eighth Ave. N.E.

Other convenient locations are at Wedgwood, 7724 35th Ave. N.E., and Green Lake (which the post office insists on calling Wallingford), 1329 N. 47th St.

P.S. – We’ve had several comments or e-mails insisting the Wallingford P.O. is technically in Wallingford. Which we think of as over by the QFC with the huge “WALLINGFORD” sign on top. This post office is in walking distance of Green Lake (see map). QED.

  1. Obama is American, and the Wallingford Post Office (as well as Zoka coffee) are, per the neighborhood map used by city offices, in Wallingford. If freemont wants the dump, however, they can have it.

  2. I hate to break it to you, but the one on 1329 N 47th really is in Wallingford. It may have been debatable whether or not my old apartment was in Fremont or Wallingford (west side of Stone Way, but north of 40th), but the area just east of Stone and far south of the general 50th-60th grey area boundary is most certainly Wallingford.
