Chiang's Gourmet named among city's top Chinese

Judy Fu’s Snappy Dragon may be the city’s best Chinese restaurant in the eyes of Seattle Magazine readers, but Seattle Met has listed another Chinese restaurant in Maple Leaf as one of the best Chinese restaurants: Chiang’s Gourmet.

“The Insider’s Guide to Asian Food in Seattle” recommends that you not miss Chiang’s homemade noodles and green onion pancakes, but that you also try to steer clear of the more Americanized dishes, writing:

“If you’re on the moo shoo trail, head elsewhere.”

The article notes that the Maple Leaf restaurant, located just off of Interstate 5 at 7845 Lake City Way N.E., is a converted root beer stand, which also just so happens to serve Taiwanese breakfast featuring sweet soybean milk and Chinese doughnuts from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekends.

The sister Chiang’s Gourmet in Renton at 17650 140th Ave. S.E. also got a mention, as did Red Lantern and 663 Bistro in the International District, and Yea’s Wok in Newcastle.

  1. I’ve never been to Chiang’s, but I smile every time I see that barrel on the roof. My handyman grew up in the neighborhood back in the 1950s, went to Roosevelt High. Back then, Chiang’s was a XXX Root Beer place, and was the local high school hang out.

  2. We likethe food at Chiang’s but have stopped going there as they’ve really raised the prices to a level that isn’t worth it anymore… for us anyway.

  3. While I love the food at Chiang’s, some times the service is spotty and it takes a long time to get out to your table. Sometimes not all at once either. Something to plan for if you have small kids who get figidty after a while. We’ve stopped going there until our kids are a little older.
