School’s out for spring break, but graffiti vandals haven’t left Maple Leaf.

“Olympic View Elementary and surrounding neighborhood have been extensively vandalized every weekend for at least four weeks. The damage is in the thousands of dollars,” John emails.

The school, at 504 N.E. 95th St., has been a frequent target, John said last week.

“You may not have noticed this because of SPS’s amazing graffiti-removal crews. Today (Thursday), it’s already gone. I got a chance to chat with one of the guys this morning. I think these guys are real heroes; we have no idea what our neighborhood would look like without their work.

“To report graffiti, call 684-PKUP (684-7587). This often seems to work.”

  1. The nice thing: all of this stuff in my part of the neighborhood disappeared by Saturday, less than 72 hours! SPS had the school cleaned in 48 hrs. Somebody besides myself removed all the tags I saw on Roosevelt.
    This neighborhood rocks!

  2. Do the graffiti vandals EVER get caught. And if they do get caught, are they forced to pay for the damage they have done? I doubt it, and that is why this continues. Just stick it to the ratepayers and to the property taxpayers.

  3. I met the SPS graffiti repair guy Friday morning, a real pro. He had these tags off within 48 hrs. It was nice to be able to thank him.
I’d rather be able to spend my tax dollars on teachers, but we need these guys. Our community owes a big debt to the SPS crews.

  4. These children have cost us a least a couple thousand dollars in 2-3 weeks. It will require a cherrypicker crane and a power washer to repair the school. Feel free to call 911 and ask for police attention. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

  5. Exact same stuff that was done to Northgate Library a couple days ago. Glad they remove it quickly. I had to take a step back when I saw the childcare kids at the community center copying the graffiti on the sidewalk with chalk. Let’s hope the worker saw this as a learning opportunity to talk to the kids. Chalk o.k. other not so much.
