We’ve heard from two neighbors this week about local crimes.

Emily reports a home burglary on Friday, June 1, at Northeast 102nd Street and Eighth Avenue Northeast.

“We just wanted the neighborhood to know,” she emails. “The backpack burglars are back.”

Eric reports possible car prowlers at 4 a.m. Friday.

“I let my dog out and as I did so a car stopped in front of my house at Northeast 91 Street and 17th Avenue Northeast. I yelled at them and they took off. I called for a patrol car.

“Reminder, just because it’s raining doesn’t mean the crime will stop.”

When we ran the Seattle Police crime map for the month of May, we found a half-dozen burglaries (stars on the map) and about 14 vehicles either stolen or prowled in Maple Leaf.

Our last crime report was in early May.

  1. I wanted to let the reader named Eric, who mentioned a possible prowler near his house, that there is a good chance it was the Seattle Times delivery person. I live up the street a block and have noticed that the delivery person comes up our street, making frequent stops, at 4AM on the dot every day.

  2. There have been people prowling our neighborhood over the last few days. One came to my door claiming to be evangelizing but it was clear he had no ID or bible, but did have a notepad in his back pocket. I have added video monitoring to my house.

  3. There is a woman in her fifties possibly (she looks haggard but not homeless) that is heavyset and about 5 feet 5 with black hair, caucasian looking. She smokes cigarrettes. It appears that she is selling drugs off of 5th ave ne from the Mall south down to 80th street. People drive up to her and they exchange something and they drive off. She constantly looks up and down the road for either the police or her customers. That or she gets in the car and rides around the block and they drop her off about where she got in. Keeping an eye out for her so I can call a patrol car. We dont need this is in our neighborhood.
