After more than 70 years in a converted residential home on Lake City Way, North Seattle Veterinary Clinic has changed locations to 11032 Eighth Ave. N.E. and plans an open house from 1-4 p.m. April 7.

Located in the former 24 Hour Fitness, the new vet clinic is on the upper level of the Northgate Village shopping center between the U.S. Postal Service and Hot Yoga Inc.

At 4,100 square feet, the clinic is nearly twice the size and a more convenient space than their previous location, which “became a bit of a maze”  after years of additions, said Practice Manager Natalie Ervin.

“We designed the new space for ourselves to give us the best use of space,” she said. “In a converted house, you’re limited by what you can do.”

Although it’s located right across the street from Maple Leaf in Pinehurst, Ervin said the clinic already has a number of clients from Maple Leaf, and hopes to grow even more into its new space.

New ownership since 1985

North Seattle Veterinary Clinic has been an independently owned and operated business since the 1940s; current owner Adawna Windom purchased the practice in 1985 and has developed a loyal following since, Ervin said.

“We like to joke that (Windom) must carry bacon in her pockets because the pets adore her,” she added.

In 1999, Melissa Nathanson joined the practice as a business partner, further setting the clinic apart by offering services for “pocket pets,” including rabbits, guinea pigs and rodents, which are not seen by all vets.

To further expand their offerings, the clinic recently hired Melissa Walker, who offers veterinarian acupuncture and herbal therapies.

“She uses traditional Chinese medicine approach as well as standard Western medicine,” Ervin says. “She integrates where she sees fit.”

Open House April 7

The clinic moved into its new space Dec. 3, but wanted to settle in before planning the open house, which will include a chance for you to meet the doctors and take tours of the clinic.

Guests at the open house will be eligible for door prizes such as free exams and blood screens, and gift baskets for both dogs and cats.

Great Dog, located nearby at 11333 Roosevelt Way N.E., also will be on hand to give talks on obedience and training, and it’s also donated a raffle for free training and boarding.

There will be refreshments and goodie bags for pets, however, pets are not invited to this family-friendly event.

  1. Absolutely wonderful vet clinic! Our dogs have been seeing Drs. Windom and Nathanson since 1996. They both provide exceptional care.

  2. If you are looking for an awesome vet, this is the place! Last month we got a new puppy and called around for service info and pricing. NSVC seemed friendly and their prices were better than 5 others in the immediate area do we gave them a shot. I’ve never been happier with a vet (and I’ve had pets for nearly 40 years). Ever person that we met (drs, techs, receptionists) was wonderful, friendly & professional.

I don’t work there, I swear! 🙂 I was just blown away with how great their service was.
