Justin emailed on Friday: “Just a heads up, friends. There was an attempted break-in to our home today sometime between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.”

He lives near 15th Avenue Northeast and Northeast Northgate Way.

Came home to our front door almost off its hinges and one of the front window screens cut (VERY similar to last time).

This is the second break-in in three months! At least this time they weren’t successful. I am going out tomorrow to get a security system with alarm and camera.

Please keep your eyes open and homes safe!

Aside from yours, the police crime map for September so far shows only two other residential burglaries in Maple Leaf. (The icon on the far left is an office building that lost cash and a safe.)

The other two were in the 10700 block of Eighth Avenue Northeast and the 800 block of Northeast 95th Street.

  1. You witness a crime and they won’t take a report. Wow. Now here is a twist for you. My 20 year old college son had some middle age guy tailing his car this morning. He went around several blocks to shake him as he didn’t want to lead him to our house. Now my kid is a musician as well and has very long hair and beard. If there is profiling going on it better stop.

  2. Last night coming out of Last Drop, I caught some kids in a grey Nissan Mid-2000 Altima/Maxima breaking into a Dodge flat-bed truck. Plates: DP2 W191 Wyoming or Delaware, the plate was blue and white. I tried calling the police department last night and this morning and they won’t take my report because it’s not my vehicle. So if you live in Lake City and Maple Leaf be aware of this car.

  3. Dear MapleLeafBob, Don`t start talking about actually owning a gun in your own home, for your protection. It may make some of our more spineless neighbors uncomfortable.

  4. How are burglaries a low priority? How is someone forcing their way into a home low priority?

I haven’t heard of a self defense shooting in our neighborhood but with an increase in breaking one of the burglars is bound to get killed sooner or later. Hopefully the police try to protect the burglars from being harmed by stopping them before something bad happens.

The red chevy, if its an 80s model, and the one I’ve seen several times has a white male in his 40s maybe accompanied by a younger Hispanic male late 20s and an obese white meth head haggardly woman.

  5. http://www.pinehurstseattle.org/wp/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/2013-09NPACMinutes.pdf Really good info here. 50% increase if robbery, 50% of that due to folks leaving stuff unsecure. Think open doors and windows in the summer.
PS, don’t recall anyone saying there was NO crime in the area. Stay informed, as mentioned Pinehurst has an upcoming meeting
Editor: Note that the linked information and figures are for all Seattle’s north police precinct, essentially the entire city north of the ship canal.

  6. Yeah. The police haven’t been very communicative with me re: the successful breakin of our home in May and the latest attempt.

The same excuse is given: burglaries are LOW priority.

Due to a lucky break, I was able to track down the guy who broke into our home and gave his name, address, phone number, facebook page, twitter account, and picture to police. Any followup? NOT AT ALL!

This Thursday I am going to the Pinehurst meeting to get some answers. I am sick of this and refuse to feel like we’re a low priority. We are taxpayers and are not being kept safe. I demand action!

  7. Also, for what it is worth, the police told us not to expect anything to be done. We tried contacting them to pass on information about the burglars, and they wouldn’t even take it down. We were told that burglaries are “not a priority” for the Seattle police.

  8. 800 block of 95th was my house. They came between 1pm on Sept 3rd and 5am on the 4th while we were out of town. Broke screens and attempted to pry open windows before smashing the glass on the back door. The guy at Ace said he’d fixed 3 screens for the same reason recently.

  9. A friend of a friend just posted this to Facebook:

“If anyone in the Seattle area spots an older (70s) RED Chevrolet pickup truck with a BIG WHITE Chevy logo on the tailgate, probably driven by an older white male with a beard, lemme know, or better yet, call the cops. He crowbarred the front door of my next door neighbor in a burglary attempt while the wife was at home. Broad daylight attempt and he ran through my front yard when she scared him off.”

This happened more down towards Lake City though.

  10. We were hit at the very end of August, down by 5th and Banner. The police told us that there’d been a whole string of break-ins in the neighborhood that day.

  11. The crime spree that Maple Leaf had over the summer has migrated north. I just asked Pinehurst to post a warning. I have never seen it that bad.
