John emails this afternoon: “I see that not only are the lower playfields now open at Maple Leaf Park, but also the drain steps on the east side of the park are now filled with water. This is the first time I have seen so much water in them. It’s flowing over the lips…just as it’s supposed to.”
The rain overnight here at Maple Leaf Life South measured 1.35 inches.

If someone has a full description of how these things work, I’d like to read it. There seems to be a significant time delay between when it’s raining and when the things fill up, and they seem to drain at different rates. The water doesn’t always go downhill, it gets to the middle and disappears.
They are wonderful and thought-provoking, but I’d like to know what’s going on with them.
Great photos! I always walked by those and wondered if it would really work.
