This just in from Seattle Police:

Robbery Detectives are on the hunt for a mother-son duo of suspects that carjacked a woman at the Northgate park and ride on Thursday night.

A woman was loading bags into the trunk of her car at the park and ride around 5 p.m. when a man grabbed her from behind in a bear hug and put his hands over her mouth.

As the victim fought to rip the suspect’s hands away from her face, she suddenly heard a woman’s voice urging her to hand over her keys.

The victim was able to break free from the man’s grasp, but dropped her keys in the process. The victim then saw a man and woman climb into her Jeep and speed away, almost running over the victim in the process.

A witness, who heard the victim’s screams, tailed the suspects as they drove through oncoming traffic and into a labyrinthine office park nearby. There the son lost control of the Jeep, struck a parked car and careened into a curb, shearing off the Jeep’s front axle and deploying its airbags.

With the Jeep out of commission, the sun son and his mother fled on foot, ditching some of their clothing in the process.

Detectives later found documents in clothes tossed near the scene of the crash, which they’ve since tied to the suspects.

The son, 24, is 6-foot, 160 pounds, has shoulder-length dirty blond hair and was last seen wearing a light-colored hoodie.

His mother, 54, is 5-foot-5, 120 pounds, with brown hair and a slight build.

If you have any information about where police can find this duo, please call 911 or (206) 625-5011.

  1. Oh, by the way, my next door neighbors Honda automobile was just stolen. He recovered it. Police believe it was teenagers from out of the area going for a joy ride. They believe that they know them. Also, that car stolen and crashed on 97th is near my house. .

  2. Just wait until Maple Leaf, and Northgate get light rail. We will see more of this. People will easily come to our area with unlawful motives.More homeless persons, teenagers, etc…, Look what just happened at the Columbia light rail station. Wheeee!

  3. Vancouver BC police combat car thieves by stashing “bait cars” – cars rigged with cameras, audio, and remote killswitches. The thieves steal the bait cars, and then the police lock the doors, and turn off the ignition. The stolen car becomes a little jail cell. The videos online are awesome.

I’d like for Seattle Police put some bait cars around our neighborhood. They’d catch thieves, and we’d get to watch video of the whole thing.

  4. Question for all. I live just a couple blocks from Hubbard Park, the former park and ride for at least 25 years. I really don’t remember a bunch of car related thefts, prowls, robberies, etc.
Maybe I have selective memory or is it about location? The former location was surrounded by housing and on a main arterial. How did the transit center area get to be such a hotbed?

  5. Wow.

Thanks to Seattle Police for arresting this clown, and his mum.

He was last arrested June 29, conditionally released June 30 for VUCSA (Violation of Uniform Controlled Substances Act) investigation. Also a DWLS (Driving With License Suspended).

It’s a catch and release program for idiots.

    Stay away from meth, kids.

  6. The suspects are now in custody, reports the Seattle Police Department.

    MLL: Thanks, Miriam.
FYI, we’ve deleted the names (and photos) of the suspects both from our post and your comment (though they are still on the police blotter) since they are now in custody. Normally, we don’t name suspects until they’ve been charged or otherwise legally named. We used the names and photos here initially because they were at large and police wanted the public’s help in finding them.
Somewhat germane is a controversy from the first week of July about descriptions of suspects. If a suspect (or “suspicious person”) is in custody, we would not usually use his or her race as a descriptor. If not in custody, we would always try to include race – any race – along with sex, height, body type, hair, clothes etc. so people would know who to look out for.
