News about Mr. Grumbles, another cat – and crime

News from around the neighborhood in the past few days:

Mr. Grumbles (Do you know this cat hanging on 12th N.E.), the neighborhood cat who walks by himself and visits many homes, apparently has quite a few fans.

He may soon have his own Facebook page, his owner speculates. He was originally found living behind a dumpster, she says.

We may actually start a Facebook page (ridiculous) for him, to explain his story and advise people to not feed him/ let him inside, as he loves variety and free choice of where he stays… he just doesn’t know any better.

Meanwhile, Hallie emails: “I am part of the neighborhood … I have a cat that needs a home and I was hoping that you might be able to help.”

Rio is a male tabby with a bull’s eye design on his sides. He’s an outdoor cat and about 9 years old. Email Hallie at halliem61@gmail.com

Finally, since our last crime report in mid-July, it appears there have been right at 17 burglaries in Maple Leaf, according to the police crime map.

  1. The police seem to care little about burglaries, car thefts, nor drug sales. Im beginning to wonder if they do much of anything anymore.

Are they underfunded or have the more progressive people turned these criminals into victims of society that deserve what they steal?

Is this a trend across America? Or just here?

  2. My garage was burglarized yesterday. The things stolen were actually being staged for donation but were probably worth a couple hundred if sold retail by good will. The police refused to come take a report after saying they would. Calling the non-emergency number never results in a connection with a person.

Before that there was an odd van parked in our neighborhood for a day at a time and right now a yellow car with heavily tinted plates is cruising our neighborhood.

With all the unusual people, and burglaries, this is starting to feel highly organized.

  3. “Originally all the tame animals were wild, but especially the Cat: he walked by himself and all places were alike to him.” – Rudyard Kipling
And so the cat shat wherever he chose. And nobody was allowed to do a thing about it.

  4. To clarify: Hallie who owns Mr.Grumbles, the grey fluffy friend, is a different Hallie than the one looking to re-home the tabby! Funny coincidence, but I have no kitties that need homes. Also, wonderful quote Terry! Very much to the nature of cats.

  5. Walking dog yesterday a block or two north of Northgate way between 17th NE and 20th NE, several guys walking about seemed out of place and appeared to be casing the area.
