A broken power pole, a prowled car

The morning after. Good work, Seattle City Light.

Some work remains to be done.

——————————————————————————————–

4 p.m.: Multiple Seattle City Light crews on scene. Say they will be able to replace the pole without turning off power. !!

A Seattle Police officer photographs the roped-off intersection.

Two things this afternoon:

1) Shortly after noon a CleanScapes recycling truck struck a utility pole at 12th Avenue Northeast and Northeast 89th Street, breaking the pole at its base and again toward its top.

Seattle City Light is on the way. Neighbors (including Maple Leaf Life South) may well have their power/landline/cable interrupted as the pole will have to be replaced.

2) Eric emails:

On 12/11 my car got broken into in front of my house at Northeast  91st Street and 15th. Avenue Northeast.

They stole my prescription sunglasses and spare change.  The glasses will be discarded as soon as they realize they are for somebody with a significant astigmatism. If somebody finds a pair of Rudy Project sport sunglasses, I’d really like to get them back.

Thanks.

  1. DanM- I’d follow up on it with the city. Staff change, projects get forgotten, it happens fairly frequently, but with some citizen bugging they usually react fairly quickly. The last two potholes I’ve reported have been patched within two days.

  2. In the absence of any real activity on this site I submit the following from the Seattle Police Blotter, written by Chief O’Toole:

“When appointed chief in late June, I indicated that I would take five to six months to assess the existing leadership team and to determine how I will structure the SPD command staff going forward.

Since then, I have recruited three civilian managers to fill the important positions of chief operating officer, legal counsel and human resources director. Tomorrow we are posting the position of chief information officer.

It is now time to consider sworn assistant chief positions. In fairness to experienced, committed members of the Seattle Police Department, I will welcome applications from all members of the rank of lieutenant and above, including those currently serving on the command staff. I will also advertise the assistant chief positions nationally and expect to attract a robust pool of external candidates.

I am committed to a fair, professional process that will produce a capable, dynamic leadership team to take the SPD to the next level.

Details of the selection process will be announced later this week and interviews will commence in January.

Sincere thanks to all members of the department for your patience during this transition period.”

  3. We had a series of four poles that were being replaced, the City got the electric and street lights moved over. The waiting was for the cable and phone to get off the schneid. Contacting them roused them from their slumber.

  4. That’s wonderful that they can get it done so fast!

I guess all you have to do to get a new pole is have someone hit it. Ours on NE 96th near 15th was falling over two years ago, and they put in a replacement next to it a few months later.

Nearly three years later, we’re still waiting for all the services to get moved over to the new pole and the old pole removed.

Not critical like yours, though you’d think they’d find a spare day in three years.

Is there something to be learned by the fact that yours was hit at all?
