Cindy posts on our Facebook page: “There has been a red Univega bike abandoned on the corner of North 87th Street and Meridian Avenue North for over a week. It is wearing its lock. I hope the owner sees this!”

Terry emails (to the Nextdoor Northgate/Maple Leaf group):

A yellow-and-black Strada Veriflex scooter has been setting, abandoned after probably having been stolen, on the walkway to an office building at 10202 5th Ave. N.E. (site for an engineering firm and a children’s dental facility). It has been there since Monday, August 10th.

I called the Seattle Police non-emergency phone number, to see if some officers could be dispatched to hold it at the North Precinct station; but gave up after being on hold for 10 minutes; might try again, later.

If this is your scooter, or you know whose it is, likely it will still be there, this evening (this post written at 4:50 p.m. on Wednesday, August 12th).

And Patty emails:

“We’ve had this kitty hanging around our neighborhood for the last few weeks. No tags. Small and very friendly. Have asked a few neighbors but none appear to be owners.

“I haven’t seen any missing cat posts or posters around. Near Northeast 94th Street and 20th Avenue Northeast.”

  1. Good news I contacted her owner. He told me that she (Wasabi) had returned home after being gone for 5 days. She seems to be very adventurous and has made lots of friends along the way. I might get a collar and bell for her though since she hangs out on our block a lot (we have bird feeders)!!

Thank you all for your help!!

  2. I think I saw a poster for that kitty on 15th and 88th on a pole. On the west side of the street…. It was kind of falling off, it might still be there, I just saw it today.

  3. Good for you Tricia. You sound like a responsible pet owner. Don’t know what was with the cat hater. All pets could use some outdoor time. Unlike dogs that can be kept in fenced yard or leashed for a walk cats tend to roam a bit. Even if you were able to keep a cat in a fenced yard there is a chance it would chase birds. My dogs love chasing squirrels but have never caught one.

  4. There’s a little black cat -quite sure it’s the one described above; he stopped nearby and allowed me to pet him. He’s has been pal’in around with an older orange tabby (named Dervish) around the intersection of 20th and NE 92nd street. Somewhat west a few houses … He seems well and doing fine. hope this helps.

  5. I completely understand the concern about killing birds. All due respect: my cats were rescues from a feral colony and spent their first months outdoors. We adopted them, spayed and neutered them, keep them licensed, vaccinated and flea-free. We feed and groom them and they are members of our family. I wish that we could keep them inside, but their feral start in life makes this impossible, as when we tried, they developed serious behavior problems. Our vet even agreed. I personally think that people like us, who adopt more difficult to adopt animals that result from the ireesponsibility of others, provide a beneficial service to community.

  6. Birds kill cats on occasion. We have an owl in the local woods, and have seen eagle, hawk, merlin. It might be a good reason to keep the cat indoors.

  7. We lost a black cat lije this last year from near north seattle cc. His name is Shade. He has a microchip and had slipped out of his collar.

Our shady boy was very friendly.

Please email me more photos if possible.

  8. Tricia why dont you take care of your cat then? Cats kill songbirds and endemic small mammals. How can you have cats tha tyou just see every now and then destroying wildife?

  9. This looks like one of my cats, but we’ve seen them every day (and night) all summer. Both of ours have collars, licenses and tags. Are you sure this little onw didn’t have collar or tags?
