It’s forum season!

In advance of the Nov. 3rd Seattle City Council election – the first in decades that will elect council members to represent specific neighborhoods – several organizations are holding local forums featuring the candidates for Council District 5, which includes nearly all of Maple Leaf, and Council District 4, which includes Maple Leaf’s southernmost “toe.”

The earliest forum we know of is Saturday, Sept. 19th, at Northgate Community Center.

It’s being sponsored by Town Hall Seattle, and will feature District 5 primary election finalists Debora Juarez and Sandy Brown.

It will feature a live debate between the candidates with a moderated Q&A. (Moderator is KUOW’s Ross Reynolds.) The debate will be streamed online and broadcast by the Seattle Channel.

It begins at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free but registration is required. More details are here. You can register here.

The community center, next to the Northgate branch library, is at 10510 Fifth Ave. N.E.

Two days later, on Monday, Sept. 21st, the candidates from both districts 4 and 5 will speak at an event put on by Northeast Seattle Together (NEST). (The writer is an incorporator and former board member of NEST.)

Juarez and Brown will be joined by District 4 primary winners Rob Johnson and Michael Maddux. The moderator will be Steve Scher.

The event is from 2-3:30 p.m. at Magnuson Park Brig, 6344 N.E. 74th St. Room 406. Coffee and tea will be provided, and it is free and open to the public.

(Erica C. Barnett is running interviews, with a top-heavy spin on Urbanism “reality-based urbanist,” with 17 of the 18 council finalists over at The C is Crank. Johnson is currently featured.)

On Thursday, Oct. 1st, Town Hall will  host a District 4 forum at 7:30 p.m. Details have not yet appeared on its web site.
