Update Sept. 11:

This just in: Roosevelt (High School) will be cleaning up trash around the school  starting at 9 a.m.. We will work our way to Cowen Park to pick up trash and pull weeds and invasive plants. At 1 p.m., we are having a potluck under the picnic canopy. We have invited the community to come and discuss the issues. Everyone is welcome!

Also, the Associated Press has written a story on Seattle  teachers and community service today. Here it is in the Huffington Post.

Kathi has posted on the Maple Leaf Parents Facebook site:

If no agreement is reached and the strike continues Friday, instead of walking the picket lines, SEA (Seattle Education Association) teachers and staff will be dedicating their time to community service in honor of 9/11.

Olympic View – SEA teachers and staff will be holding a food drive on Friday, September 11 from 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at the following locations

Safeway: 7300 Roosevelt Way N.E.

QFC: 11100 Roosevelt Way N.E.

Fred Meyer: 13000 Lake City Way N.E.

In addition, she says: “Hazel Wolf K-8 is giving blood at City Hall. Green Lake is volunteering at a women’s shelter in Ballard. Eckstein will be at Green Lake Park for grounds service. Olympic Hills is cleaning up neighborhood parks in Lake City.

“Sacajawea teachers are meeting in the park south of our school at 9 a.m. We are cleaning up around the neighborhood, including the stairs that lead down to LCW. We are also walking the safe routes to school and cleaning those routes.

“Northgate Elementary will be at Northacres Park picking up trash. JAMS (Jane Addams Middle School) teachers will be doing volunteer work: splitting between the UW arboretum or joining Eckstein’s teachers for a Greenlake clean-up. A lot of JAMS teachers will also be donating blood tomorrow. Nathan Hale is donating blood at Bloodworks NW.”
