Maple Leaf already boasts lush, tree-lined streets throughout the neighborhood, but there’s always room for a few more trees — especially if they’re free.
If you’ve got a project in mind that will “enhance the urban forest,” the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods has funding available if you can interest at least five of the neighbors on your block to also participate in the project.
The annual tree fund program can award each neighborhood group 10 to 40 trees, including up to one fruit tree per participating family.
Applications, which you can download here (pdf), must be received by the Neighborhood Matching Fund office by 5 p.m. Aug. 16, and you will be notified within six weeks whether your group will be among the award recipients.
None of last year’s tree fund awards went to Maple Leaf groups, so maybe we’ll have better luck this year.
Where do you think adding trees would make a big difference in the neighborhood?
