New 24 Hour Fitness coming to Northgate

Fitness options just keep growing in Northgate and the surrounding neighborhoods.

First we got news that Big 5 Sporting Goods is moving into Northgate Village, just off of Northgate Way between Roosevelt Way Northeast and Eighth Avenue Northeast. Now it appears 24 Hour Fitness is opening up a second location at the new 507 Northgate building at the corner of Northgate Way and Fifth Avenue Northeast.

The nationwide chain is trying to make it worth your while to join before the expected opening of Dec. 17 with a special offer on its website to waive your initiation fee if you purchase an All-Club Super Sport membership.

As a “Super Sport” club, the new fitness center will feature amenities such as cardio equipment, free weights, a full-sized basketball court, group cycling, group exercise, an indoor lap pool, kids’ club, personal training, personal training area, pro shop, sauna, steam room, strength machines, towel service, volleyball and a Whirlpool.

It’s a step or two up from the basics offered at the 24 Hour Fitness now open in Northgate, 11030 Eighth Ave. N.E., but it’s also a step up in price, so we’re not sure if both locations will stay open or if the older one will close. We’ve got a call in to 24 Hour Fitness to get more details, so stay tuned and we’ll keep you posted on its fate.

  1. They are closing the old club permanently the day before the new one opens. As a 24 Fitness member who lives in the neighborhood I got a letter regarding it. I am kind of curious what the parking situation is at the new club.

  2. The old location had a cut-rate price because it was so lacking in amenities, including not having a locker room. FWIW, Costco had a very good 3-year membership offer for 24 Hour Fitness; worth seeing if they still do if you like the club.
