Seven burglaries, 10 stolen or pilfered cars in Maple Leaf during the last two weeks of October

Crime in the neighborhood during the end of October, as reported on the city’s official police reports site, was probably topped by a motorist’s attempt to Taser a bicyclist.

But burglaries and stolen or pilfered cars still dominated the reports.

Police also reported two DUI (driving under the influence) stops here. One was Wednesday, Oct. 27, in the 8500 block of Fifth Avenue Northeast, at 12:41 a.m. The other was Tuesday, Oct. 19, in the 8300 block of Lake City Way Northeast, just after four in the afternoon.

BURGLARIES

  • Shortly after midnight on Saturday, Oct. 30, burglars forced their way into a home in the 2000 block of Northeast 89th Street. No further details are yet available.
  • On Thursday, Oct. 28, an officer working uniformed patrol was dispatched shortly before 11 p.m. to a home in the 1000 block of Northeast 94th Street. “The call read, ‘INV FORCED ENTRY BURG,'” the officer reported. “When (the residents) arrived home they observed that items in the front room had been knocked over and their laptops, which had been on the front table, were missing. As they walked through the house they discovered that various pieces of jewelry had been taken from the bedroom and a road bike was missing from a back room.”
  • Burglars broke through a ground-floor window at a home in the 2000 block of Northeast 98th Street on Wednesday, Oct. 27, and stole a flat-screen TV, Xbox, tools, a computer, camera and jewelry.
  • On Tuesday, Oct. 26, a man and his wife went to pick up the mail at a home in the 200 block of Northeast 94th Street and found that overnight somebody had broken in a basement window and rifled through numerous items.
  • Police responded to a burglar alarm just before noon on Monday, Oct. 25, in the 2300 block of Northeast 108th Street.  Drawers were opened and clothes strewn about.
  • Police responding to a motion alarm at a building in the 11000 block of Eighth Avenue Northeast early Monday morning, Oct. 18, found a loading door had been rigged  so the latch wouldn’t lock.
  • A ring was reported stolen as the residents of an apartment in the 10500 bock of Roosevelt Way Northeast were moving on Friday, Oct. 15.

VEHICLES

  • A truck was stolen about 4 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 1, in the 10000 block of First Avenue Northeast.
  • On Saturday night, Oct. 30th, a vehicle was broken into in the 11200 block of Roosevelt Way Northeast.
  • A car was broken into on Wednesday night, Oct. 27, in the 8900 block of Roosevelt Way Northeast.
  • Early Tuesday morning, Oct. 26, someone broke into a vehicle in the 1500 block of Northeast 106st Street.
  • On Wednesday night, Oct. 20, a car was broken into in the 11000 block of Eighth Avenue Northeast.
  • On Tuesday morning, Oct. 19, a car was prowled in the 10200 block of 23rd Avenue Northeast.
  • One vehicle was stolen on Monday night, Oct. 18, from the 300 block of Northeast Northgate Way. That same night another car was stolen from the 500 block of Northeast Northgate Way.
  • Another car was prowled on Saturday night, Oct. 16, in the 300 block of Northeast 103rd Street.
  • Someone attempted to steal a car on Thursday night, Oct. 14, in the 800 block of Northeast 96th Street.
  • A car was broken into in the 9600 block of Roosevelt Way Northeast the night of Wednesday, Oct. 13.

  1. Well, looks like we are continuing to be the crossroads for the rif raf out of Northgate and Lake City. It’s convenient for them to swing through our neighborhood and steal what they can along the way. As neighbors we need to band together and keep an eye out for one another.

  2. If i happen to forget that I left my live pet scorpions in a bag (that looks like a purse) in the locked front seat of my car, someone breaks in and gets zapped. Do i get arrested?

  3. Statistically, is Maple Leaf comparable to other nearby neighborhoods, or better?

    Also, is the burglary and vehicle-related crime rate trending up or down in Maple Leaf?
