That helicopter overhead? Police are checking out a suspicious van

Seattle police and fire units are checking out a white camper van parked at Northeast 88th Street and 18th Avenue Northeast. It didn’t blow up while we were there, though, and an officer said that although it was reported as suspicious and possibly a mobile meth lab, it appears to be a false alarm. The Channel 7 helicopter just left.

  1. Don’t you people have JOBS?? Or do you troll this silly blog all day?

Well, how about you answer that question first JD. Lay off the coffee and relax a little neighbor.

  2. Sorry, “LADDER” Don’t you people have JOBS?? Or do you troll this silly blog all day? And please describe to me what exactly a “mobile meth lab” looks like? I am new to this. I don’t buy a homes in neighborhoods with such problems. You guys seem to be the experts on this subject. Including this “Rush L” buffoon. Enlighten me with your infinite wisdom kind sir…

  3. Regarding the level of response, it always amazes me how people are compelled to comment on subjects in which they have absolutely no background or knowledge. This often comes up with fire responses, which are basic industry standards that have been establish and tested through years of experience. The use of the now ubiquitous government waste angle reveals an even lesser degree of effort and lack of intellectual curiosity.

  4. JD – If there was a mobile meth lab parked in front of your residence, what kind of police/fire response would you like to see? Also, right across the street is a gas station. I think that would cause for some “hightened” response.

  5. Busy day. About 5:30am a car crossed 15th heading up 88th and ran into the cinder block wall of the house on the corner just barely missing the fire hydrant. No one was hurt and no other car was involved, so I have no idea how that car just ran right up the side walk and into the wall.

  6. Hazmat my ass…and what a LATTER engine have to do with a ” suspicious white camper van”? What this a high rise meth van? Ridiculous…

  7. What a waste of resources! They sent a latter engine , two fire trucks and a van. Talk about overkill. Not to mention all the police cars AND hovering helicopter. All for a “false alarm”? Our tax money at work…
Editor: It came in as a “hazardous material spill/leak,” with a possible meth connection, and was close to a gas station. They like to be prepared – 14 fire units were originally dispatched. The helicopter and white SUV were KIRO’s; the black Subaru wagon was mine. -Mike

  8. Come on JD… is that you I hear typing away in that Winnebago??
And let’s get real here. I’d rather have overkill where hazmat is concerned, specially right next to a gas station. Methinks most neighbors would agree!

  9. 14?? yikes… still seems a bit much. I mean if the place was engulfed in flames then I could understand. But this seems to happen often. I hear and see them all the time up and down Lake City Way. You would think the whole north end is ablaze sometimes! Thanks for the heads up though.
