From Nextdoor Northgate/Maple Leaf:

Hit and runs (on multiple sideswiped cars) last night in the south end of Maple Leaf.

We had a hit and run driver sideswipe some cars on Fourth Avenue Northeast last night around 11:30 p.m. We got the truck’s license and called the cops, but they have not responded yet (say they’ve been very busy with many issues last night and this morning). At least three different neighbors have called them….

He left a two-block long scrape in Fourth Avenue where his axle gouged the road as he tried to flee the scene.

Earlier in the week, also from Nextdoor:

Burglary Tuesday morning in Maple Leaf.

Neighbors on Northeast 92nd Street between 5th and 8th avenues northeast were burglarized yesterday morning with numerous items stolen. The house was also ransacked. The perpetrators may have been in an older tan or cream colored van.

The map shows locations of burglaries here reported to police so far in November.

  1. The police could do plenty – if they bothered to show up. They don’t need to “arrest a license plate” – they could show up quickly and track the driver with a K-9.

If we give up on law enforcement, we might as well give up on Seattle.

  2. There’s also not a whole lot they can do. Cops arrest people, not license plates. So unless somebody happened to get a description of the driver, about the only thing they can do is talk to the registered owner and say “Did you do it?” and if they say no, we’re back at square one.

  3. A driver sideswipes several cars and the police don’t respond to get information to track him down. Considering that a car driven by a drunk driver is a dangerous weapon, this is inexcusable behavior on the part of the police.

Hopefully, by sometime before the weekend ends, they’ll follow up on the leads that people are begging to give them.
