Get your hands dirty at the community garden

If you haven’t got enough to do in your own yard next weekend, or you’ve simply got some time to spare, you’re invited to dig in the dirt with your friends and neighbors at a quarterly work party at the Maple Leaf Community Garden at 529 N.E. 103rd St.

The garden, which features 22 P-Patch plots as well as open space for the community, needs your help preparing for spring. So get ready to get dirty, because you’ll be mulching and planting from 9:30 a.m. to about noon on Saturday, Feb. 20.

If you’d like to join the party or can’t make it but would like to volunteer some other time, call Seattle community garden coordinator Kenya Fredie at 684-0264. She’s also the one to call if you’d like to put your name on the waiting list for one of the garden plots, but be forewarned that the wait list is about one to two years.

To see more pictures of the garden, see Douglas Daily’s photos on Gruffducks, where we got the above photo.
