The community came out in full force last night to celebrate the fourth birthday of Northgate Community Center, 10510 Fifth Ave. N.E.
Soultronic performed hits from yesterday and today as couples danced, children limboed and everyone simply enjoyed the good tunes and good weather.
A balloon artist entertained both children and their parents alike as she made favorite and feared animals with a little help from the families.
And families also built their own surprises with wooden kits donated by Lowe’s.
There also was plenty of food, with teens selling hot dogs, chips and lemonade as a fundraiser for the center’s teen program.
Although the birthday bash was a special treat this Thursday, Soultronic’s performance kicked off the Summer Concerts on the Lawn series that will take place every Thursday through August from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
“You can bring dinner and have a picnic,” said Pati Maxwell, coordinator of the community center.
Although the performances are free, the Northgate Grrrlzz are holding a food drive for North Helpline at next week’s performance by Jack Cook and The Phantoms of Soul. Who else is playing this summer?:
