National Night Out against crime- that one night of the year when neighbors close their streets and get to know each other – is August 3.
Last year Seattle police say over 1,200 neighborhoods here participated. (Could we even have that many neighborhoods?)
This year the theme is “Celebrating Crime Free Neighborhoods.” If you have a neighborhood that has seen a decrease in crime, it is a time to celebrate your achievements. If you have ongoing crime problems you are working on, it is a chance to renew your focus, start a Block Watch if you haven’t already, and take a public stand against crime in your neighborhood.
In the past Maple Leaf’s participation in Night Out has been more sporadic than other neighborhoods, where street after street have been closed to through traffic.
Do you know of neighbors here who have registered their street with Night Out?
You and me both, Eric. A quick look at the city clerk’s (unofficial) neighborhood map page – http://clerk.ci.seattle.wa.us/~public/nmaps/neiglist.htm – shows about one-tenth that number. -Mike@MapleLeafLife
I didn’t know Seattle had 1200 neighborhoods. Is that number correct? It seems a bit on the high side.
Nickbob, the signup link appears to be working now. Please give it another try when you get a chance!
The signup link is not working properly.
Our street has had a stable location for around 6 six years, and it’s always been a friendly get-together. Good thing, getting to know your neighbors.
