Crime, which took a holiday when the snow fell, is back.

At the top of the list is an armed robbery on Monday, Nov. 29, at a retail store in the 400 block of Northeast Northgate Way.

A security officer at the store told police that he watched a man take a Nike shoe box and walk out of the store. When he and another security officers stopped the man – who the security officer recognized and went to high school with – he grabbed for a handgun stuck in his belt and shouted “something bad is gonna happen,” according to the police report on the incident.

Burglars hit local homes repeatedly, including twice on Thursday, Dec. 2, forcing their way into homes in the 800 block of Northeast 104th Street and the 1500 block of Northeast 97th Street. (Editor’s note: this 97th street burglary was originally erroneously reported as occurring on 92nd.) A home in the 1200 block of Northeast 88th Street was burglarized the day before, Wednesday, Dec. 1.

On Saturday, Nov. 26, police report that a homeowner in the 8600 block of Eighth Avenue Northeast returned from work to find his closets rummaged through and two guitars and a stack of DVDs missing. Police say entry was made by kicking in a basement door.

Vehicles were stolen or looted, according to police reports, on:

  • Saturday, Dec. 4, in the 500 block of Northeast 103rd Street.
  • Friday, Dec. 3, in the 400 block of Northeast 95th Street.
  • Thursday, Dec. 2, in the 500 block of Northeast 91st Street.
  • Wednesday, Dec. 1, in the 9100 bock of Eighth Avenue Northeast.
  • Monday, Nov. 29, in the 9000 block of 12th Avenue Northeast,  the 8300 block of Eighth Avenue Northeast, and the 7500 block of Roosevelt Way Northeast.
  • Saturday, Nov. 27, in the 9500 block of 17th Avenue Northeast.

Car thefts are so common – 10 a day in Seattle – that police are putting them on Twitter.

Also on Saturday, Nov. 27, a bicycle was stolen from the 7900 block of Roosevelt Way Northeast.

  1. This is really sad and aggravating. Don’t these d-bags have anything better to do with their time. We use to set our alarm only when we were gone for more than a day or two, but now its all the time. We also use to pin up our dog up in one room, but now we let the dog roam the entire house. Thankfully our dog is 90 pounds with a nasty bark, so anyone trying to mess with a window or door will be aggressively greeted. We also put wooden dowls in every window in addition to the normal locks and added additional motion lights.

It’s sad that we have to do these things, but its the reality of living in the crossroads between Northgate and Lake City which are both filled with rif raf. Too many people now days think they are entitled to the fruit from another persons labor.
