Another report of door-to-door "Martin," this time in Wedgwood

Update July 19: Today Greg S. posted this comment on Wedgwood View’s coverage of “Martin.”

I forwarded this URL and the other one to Southwestern Home a few days ago and today received a courteous reply from their Director of Communications. They apologized the interactions have not been positive in nature. Martin is a student at the University of California at Berkeley and this is his first time selling for them. His supervisor has been made aware of the situation and corrective actions are being taken.

Let’s hope so.

We received over 20 comments last week on the “door-to-door scammer story. Today we got an email from Greg, who lives in Maple Leaf, telling us the man most mentioned, Martin, is apparently operating in Wedgwood.

Yesterday the guest who had been at our house and lives in Wedgwood called to say Martin had just paid him a visit. He asked about “children” and when the homeowner asked to see a badge with ID Martin waved vaguely at his waist and would not show it to him. The homeowner then indicated that folks were complaining about him and he was creeping a lot of them out. At this point Martin tried to push his way into the house to look at the “website.”  He was told to leave and again, stayed briefly before finally moving on.

I convinced my friend to notify the police as this is a pattern of irrational behavior at best, and potentially someone profiling for children, at worst.

  1. Martin came to our house yesterday 7/19. He was Asian and about 5’7″. He had a clip board. I told him we were not interested and he kept trying to talk. He took notes in Chinese. He seemed very creepy to me. I slammed the door on him because he would not leave.

  2. The man who came to our door was a young Asian man with glasses. He was about 5′ 7″ and looked to be in his early 20’s (college age). He was riding a bike. He didn’t seem threatening in any way, just pushy and socially inept.

  3. I will take your picture, call the police, AND yell at anybody who dares to knock on my door! “No Soliciting” means just that. It’s against the law to approach & knock on somebody’s door who has this sign posted. Or at least I think so.

  4. I heard about the same thing happening in Puyallup this week from relatives down there…call the cops if he shows up at your homes!

  5. We had an ADT-related door visit as well about a month ago (again ignoring the No Solicitors sign). Two late-20s white guys on foot, one carrying an ADT yard sign, one carrying a pad of paper or register. Seemed interested in finding out if our ADT subscription was active…

  6. I was going to ask if anyone has a picture of him or a description. Someone like that came to my door a couple weeks ago.

Also, I think there was a scammer this past weekend, pretending to be from ADT, the security company.

  7. I hope the resident of that house gave Martin a really hard shove out the front door. That creep is asking for big trouble if he is trying to physically force his entry into peoples’ homes. Does anyone have a picture of this guy?

  8. Is anyone bringing this string of comments on this blog and the Pinehurst blog to the attention of N precinct? There was a similar discussion on the Pinehurst blog with about 20 comments.

Maple Leaf Life: Yes, Erica, the N. Precinct is well aware of it. Officers have apparently contacted Martin numerous times. -Mike

  9. Martin came to our house in Maple Leaf (91st) the week of 6/27. He was pushy, wouldn’t leave when asked, etc. When I finally told him he could leave or I would call the police, he ran away. I still called the police and I saw them questioning him out front for 10-15 min. The dispatcher asked if I wanted to hear back from the officers after they checked him out and I said no, but now wish I had said yes. He actually had the nerve to come back that evening and my husband told him to scram.

  10. Martin was in Meadowbrook 2 nights ago. Creepy and pushy wanting to come in and sit down. I told him I wasn’t interested and I wasn’t going to tell him where any other kids lived. We are at 98th and 32nd.

  11. This creepy guy was at our house on 97th/15th on July 3rd. My husband just said no thank you and closed the door but I am more than a little creeped at by this repeat behavior. He used that “You must be the dad!” line on my husband. The most disturbing thing to me is that I saw him taking notes in a notebook as he was leaving our driveway. I shutter to think about what he could be writing down- address and if they had kids?
Thank you for keeping tabs on this and please keep the updates coming.
