SNOW!!! 2-3 inches in Maple Leaf

Posted by Mike on February 9th, 2014

Depending on where you measure, Maple Leaf got between 2.25 and 3 inches of snow overnight.

Streets, though, are mostly wide open, and the snow plows have been out.

As are children, sleds, skis and dogs.

To see a map of what’s plowed, click here.

The forecast calls for a few flurries today, then rain.

And more rain. For the rest of the week.

THE STEADIER SNOWFALL THAT FELL OVERNIGHT HAS ENDED AND THE AREA WILL GET A MUCH AWAITED GRADUAL WARMING TREND STARTING LATER TODAY.

So let’s enjoy the snow now.

Hi everyone – I’m going to sound like a party pooper, but I’d like to mention something about enjoying this snow in the park.

Please don’t go into the fenced ballfield areas. Please? We know the snow makes it particularly tempting (especially for sledding), but we have been hoping the fences would come down sooner rather than later. Initially Parks had said they were hoping to take down the fences in March or April if the grass was fully established, but if people are walking on the grass areas that are just finishing establishing themselves, this could put off the removal of the fences even further into the spring.

We have 15 acres of park above to enjoy. We know there is not sledding opportunities in the upper park, but resisting this one year from trampling over the grass in the lower fenced in area could mean those fences could come down sooner and those ballfields could be used this spring and summer.

We know the fences have been either knocked over and people are pulled them apart making it easy for people to enter, but the fences are still up for a reason. Please, please resist temptation and don’t go in.
